In Your Space

Danika Green’s series explores the relationship between personal environments we create and the subsequent identities we form within them.

The series “In Your Space” explores the relationship between personal environments and the identities we form within them. Photographed over the years in medium format, the series captures people, including those close to me, within the spaces they inhabit.

From red couches to posters on the wall, every subject I have ever photographed has had unique stories of how their home defined them. It was fascinating to have people open up and talk about their memories through things they have been surrounded by their whole lives; it added much more meaning to the photo that was being taken in the process and brought character to the picture itself.

I believe personal environments hold traces of who we are, carrying fragments of our histories, values, and memories. What may appear ordinary often holds a deeper significance, revealing the subtle ways in which our surroundings become intertwined with our sense of self. Through these intimate observations, I seek to understand how the spaces we call our own come to reflect not only who we are, but the lives we have lived within them.
