Photographer Matt Frost takes us behind the scenes of a primetime TV show and introduces us to the people that make it all work.
After studying Graphic Design at Norwich School of Art and Design, specialising in photography, I did a stint as a cruise ship photographer sailing Alaska’s Inside Passage. It was brutal but life-changing.
I assisted a variety of disciplines in London inc. fashion, portraiture and editorial/advertising photographers. Through assisting, I met my future picture editor and boss at ITV, where I was staff photographer for over two years. This opened the door to freelancing in the film and TV industry, where I’ve built long-lasting relationships, working regularly for the major terrestrial TV channels, as well as independent production companies and the national press.
Working on film sets has had a strong influence on my work and fuelled my love of storytelling, something I bring to my own photography. I strive to create images that are strong and visually powerful but also suggest intrigue. I tend to keep things simple within my work, maybe because I’m simple minded?? Simplicity soothes the soul. Ultimately, I want to capture people’s imaginations and inspire their curiosity.
