Lucie Berquière’s series answers the question – what happens to the characters during a pandemic, when theatres become forbidden places?
Lucie Berquière (b. 1994) is a photographer and multidisciplinary artist based between the South of France and Estonia.
After training in the performing arts, she initially worked as an actress and voice actress. She then turned to photography in 2019. Her first photographic series (Instantanés, 2019–2022) explored blind persons’ perception of the landscape and received the Youth Photography Occitanie award from Images Singulières (2021). The following year, she held her first solo exhibition, Küsimus, at Espace Saint Ravy in Montpellier, France (2022).
Her work has been exhibited and screened at various venues, including the European Parliament in Brussels and the Opéra Comique in Paris, as well as at festivals such as Boutographies Hors les Murs in Montpellier, ALP’ in Annecy, and Les Sténopédies in Clermont-Ferrand. Blurring the lines between documentary and fiction, her works take the form of photographic series, exhibitions accompanied by soundtracks, or installations.
