Baz R Bule photographed river taxis on the busiest river in Bangladesh and realised that no one other than you is bothered that you might die.
I know photographers. And I’m not one of them. Not yet anyway. Some days I think I’m getting closer. Other days I think I should just stick to my day job.
I’m an art director by day. And have been for over 20 years. For me, it’s one of the best jobs in the world. And up until 3 years ago I couldn’t see myself doing anything else.
Maybe it was a midlife crisis. I don’t know. But what I do know is that from the moment I decided to buy a Fujifilm X100F, I’ve not looked at the world the same again.
Its fixed 23mm lens forced me to see things differently. It made me want to stand on street corners, talk to complete strangers and get up at all hours to chase the best light. It made me get up close and personal to the things and people that I’ve always looked at.
Frank Capa said, “If your photos aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough.”
Everything I do now is about getting close enough. It’s about stepping forward, being braver and getting closer to humans. Closer to the city. Closer to moments.
Closer to being a photographer.
